Most trips involve collecting on the surface, but 12-15 SMLS members are fully equipped to explore and collect underground.

Collecting in the past has included trips overseas, e.g. France, Siberia, Northern Spain, Hungary, Lanzarote, India and Namibia (see Overseas). Trips abroad often take the form of GEOTOURISM, being a mixture of general tourism as well as mineral field trips and visits.
